The Veterans' Department provides aid and assistance to all eligible veterans and their dependents under Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 115. Benefits provided include application for bonuses, financial assistance, medical and prescription reimbursement as well as emergency funds.

Assistance is also provided in obtaining Federal Benefits such as service-connected disabilities, non-service pensions, enrollment into the Veterans Administration healthcare system and educational benefits. Other services include obtaining military records, replacement of medals and ordering veteran's grave markers.

On Wednesday, March 7, 2012, the Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) presented the Town of Pembroke’s Veteran’s Office with the “Excellence Award” at the Joint Commonwealth Wide Training Session’s formal dinner at the Four Points Sheraton in Leominster. Additionally, Secretary Coleman Nee was on hand to present the prestigious annual Veterans’ Service Officer of the Year award to Pembroke Veterans’ Agent David McPhillips.
